RISE AGAINST - "Lanterns"

This night will fall like any other
Daylight subsides and shadows crawl
Out from under black corners
Hiding something stirs
All so restless
Cracked windows open wide
Dead-bolt turns. Doors creak open
Whispers and moonlight there to guide

Come raise your lantern to the sky
Can we illuminate this night?
We'll dance like heathens round a flame
While the world sleeps we are awake

The black brook calls
It sings a chorus
While the gathering swells
The flames grow tall
Right before us
As drums keep pounding
And the masses now are fusing
Bodies pressed and tangled
As we revel in confusion
Our inhibitions thrown into the fire

Come raise your lantern to the sky
Can we illuminate this night?
We'll dance like heathens round a flame
While the world sleeps we are awake

Here in the dark we are safe from the judgement
Now arm in arm locked tight so no one gets in
The hell is sent. See, child, you are hellbent
But hell is not where we're going
Hell is where we've been

Come raise your lantern to the sky
And let's illuminate this night
We'll dance like heathens around the flame
And while the world sleeps we are awake

Raise your lantern to the sky
And let's illuminate this night
We'll dance like heathens around the flames
While the world sleeps we are awake
(Raise your lantern to the sky)
Yeah, we are awake
(Hey, hey, hey)
We are awake
(Now raise your lantern to the sky)
We are awake
Yeah, we are awake
We are awake

Balloons (30/365)

Balloons (30/365), a photo by elawgrrl on Flickr.

Via Flickr:
It's lovely to arrive at a hotel with balloons.

THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS - "Where Do They Make Balloons?"

Marmalade's from Scotland
Rugs from Pakistan
Mexico has jumping beans
And cars are from Japan

Clowns are from the circus
Barking comes from dogs
Eggs come from a chicken
And log cabins come from logs

But where, where do they make balloons? (where)
But where, where do they make balloons? (where)

New York has tall buildings
New Jersey has its malls
Pisa has a leaning tower
Will it ever fall?

The ocean has the fishes
London has a tower
In Holland they have windmills,
Lots of bikes, and pretty flowers

But where, where do they make balloons? (where)
But where, where do they make balloons? (where)

Balloons (da, da, doodoodoodoo, da, da, doodoodoodoo)
Balloons (da, da, doodoodoodoo, da, da, doodoodoodoo)
Balloons (da, da, doodoodoodoo, da, da, doodoodoodoo)
Balloons (da, da, doodoodoodoo, da, da, doodoodoodoo)

Spaghetti is from China (doo, doodoo, doodoodoodoo)
But Italians make it best (doodoo, doodoodoodoo)
Ants can make an anthill (doodoo, doodoodoodoo)
And monkeys make a mess (doodoo, doodoodoodoo)

Hungary isn't hungry (doodoo, doodoodoodoo)
And french fries aren't from France (doodoo, doodoodoodoo)
Turkeys aren't from Turkey (doodoo, doodoodoodoo)
They can't fly but they can dance (doodoo)

But where, where do they make balloons? (where)
But where, where do they make balloons? (where)
But where, where do they make balloons? (where)
But where, where do they make balloons? (where)

Leap (29/365)

Indy spent the better part of an hour taking leap after leap in the snow on his second snow day. I think he likes it!

BILLY BRAGG - "Wating For The Great Leap Forwards"

It may have been Camelot for Jack and Jacqueline
But on the Che Guevara highway filling up with gasoline
Fidel Castro's brother spies a rich lady who's crying
Over luxury's disappointment
So he walks over and he's trying
To sympathise with her but he thinks that he should warn her
That the Third World is just around the corner

In the Soviet Union a scientist is blinded
By the resumption of nuclear testing and he is reminded
That Dr Robert Oppenheimer's optimism fell
At the first hurdle

In the Cheese Pavilion and the only noise I hear
Is the sound of someone stacking chairs
And mopping up spilt beer
And someone asking questions and basking in the light
Of the fifteen fame filled minutes of the fanzine writer

Mixing Pop and Politics he asks me what the use is
I offer him embarrassment and my usual excuses
While looking down the corridor
Out to where the van is waiting
I'm looking for the Great Leap Forwards

Jumble sales are organised and pamphlets have been posted
Even after closing time there's still parties to be hosted
You can be active with the activists
Or sleep in with the sleepers
While you're waiting for the Great Leap Forwards

One leap forward, two leaps back
Will politics get me the sack?

here comes the future and you can't run from it
If you've got a blacklist I want to be on it

It's a mighty long way down rock 'n roll
From Top of the Pops to drawing the dole

If no one seems to understand
Start your own revolution and cut out the middleman

In a perfect world we'd all sing in tune
But this is reality so give me some room

So join the struggle while you may
The Revolution is just a T-shirt away

Indy is very vocal about his thoughts about his first snow experience. I think he wants snow booties to go with his parka vest. Seriously, my dog needs a parka vest to go outside. Why did we leave Florida again?

BOMB THE MUSIC INDUSTRY! - "Vocal Coach"

I’m such a skeptic
When they flail their arms
Screaming “OH GOOD GOD!” again.

All the records we love
Have dirty covers,
Dusty grooves
And deep scratches.

Kind of blacking out
When all the lights go bright
‘Til the room gets dark again

‘Cause we put up our guard
For superstars
And their sharp movements,
Big fashion.

I’m aware
That I’m kind of getting scared
The love that I thought had no bounds
Is coming to an end.

So leave me here,
You can just leave me here
To find something new so
I don’t feel as good as dead.

I get embarrassed when I hear my voice
And it’s not like in my head.
If I got a new vocal coach
And I could hit the notes,
You’d fall in love again.

Nothing’s forever, dude.
Nothing’s forever, dude.
I’ve lost so much I’m running out of things to lose.

I get embarrassed when I hear my voice
And it’s not like in my head.
If I got a new vocal coach
And I could hit the notes,
You’d fall in love again.

If I got a new vocal coach
And I could hit the notes,
You’d fall in love again.

So leave me here,
You can just leave me here
To find something new so
I don’t feel as good as dead.

Oh, I get so embarrassed when my voice pops out
And it’s not like in my head.
If I got a new vocal coach
And I could hit the notes,
You’d fall in love again.

If I got a new vocal coach
And I could hit the notes,
You’d fall in love again. [x2]

BAD RELIGION - "The Day That The Earth Stalled"

Do you remember when
We were young, adventure had no end?
Those were the days, my friend.
But I'm not talking about that at all.

Do you remember when
You marred my future with a sickly parasitic pall?
That was the day that the earth stalled.

That was the day the earth stalled.
On the day that the earth stalled.

Friction, bonds and gravity,
All harmonic motion ceased.
Life itself could not maintain
From that singularity.

Try to withstand a magnetic storm
With no one to keep you warm.
Waiting for the rest to fall,
Since the day that the earth stalled.

That was the day the earth stalled.
Since the day that the earth stalled.
That day that the earth stalled.
On the day that the earth stalled.

Such serenity in Piedmont Park until Indy decided he wanted to annihilate the ducks.

BOUNCING SOULS - "Serenity"

I spent some time saying some things I didn't want to say
Convincing someone of something about me, not a lie but not the truth in a way

Slipping into a suit and tie or walking in some shoes
I got lost in that disguise, I guess I had something to prove

But the proof is there in what I do
Talk is cheap and clothes make the man
If it's not a disguise and you know where you stand

I'm a clown, I’m a monkey, maybe I’m a jerk
Whatever you make me out to be
But I know the difference and what you say doesn’t matter to me

I don't care what you think
I’m gonna do what I have to do
Say what you wanna say
Talk’s a waste of time with you

HUSKER DU - "Hate Paper Doll"

Hate paper doll
You never get cut, but you're looking at me
Hate paper doll
You never get back, but you never can see

Taking it all, cut from a sack that you got on TV
Paid for it all, taking it back 'cause I wanted it free
Wanted it free now, you just want it to be just like me
