I had a lovely May Day morning presenting a Mock Trial to some elementary students based on Jack and the Beanstalk. The children were definitely affected by Jack's mean mom but we used that as an opportunity to talk about how your past doesn't define your future nor excuse your actions. And, then on my way out, I saw this mural which is directly on point.... "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, things are not going to get better. It's not." Take action today to make something better - you'll be surprised at what you can do!

THOUGHT RIOT - "You're Gonna Die (Unless You're White And/Or Rich)"

Racially inefficient,
A malfunction prevalent in the system
Blood rusts dry! On gears monkey wrenched with innocent life;
However cogs refuse to slow,
With each denial that we know
The machine runs on murderous,
In its service of peace!

Eye for an eye!
As long as you're not white
Injustice! As the hammer falls!
Eye for an eye!
As long as pockets aren't lined
Injustice! As the hammer falls!

Economically deficient,
A virus rampant in this organism,
Blood runs dry! In corpses too poor to pay for their life;
However teeth refuse to slow,
With each refusal that we know
The monster feeds on murderous,
In its quest for peace!

Eye for an eye!
As long as you're not white
Injustice! As the hammer falls!
Eye for an eye!
As long as pockets aren't lined
Injustice! As the hammer:

Barbaric vestigium, but even that aside,
Your intentions get lost in the flawed design.
And the financially inept,
The black men that you net, guilty or innocent,
Will walk this mile! More often than me or mine!

Oh no, no, no!
Oh no, no, no!

Oh no, this ship of justice has just run ashore.

Oh no, no, no!
Oh no, no, no!

Oh no, this ship of justice is in just need of reform!

Eye for an eye!
As long as you're not white
And/or rich! As the hammer falls!
Eye for an eye!
As long as pockets aren't lined
Injustice! As the hammer...
