Hooray! Tampa Theatre is now digital. They debuted their new digital projector tonight by showing the film Samsara. This non-narrative documentary is definitely not a film you have seen before. It vividly portrays life, death and rebirth starting and ending with Tibetan monks and voyaging around 25 countries with disparate shooting locations - inside slaughterhouses (eliciting someone from the audience to scream "Go Vegan"), a factory for sex dolls, military proceedings, religious shrines (including a stunning scene of pilgrims at mecca) and breathtaking natural and urban scenery.
BAD RELIGION - "21st Century (Digital Boy)"
I can't believe it, the way you look sometimes
Like a trampled flag on a city street, oh yeah
And I don't want it, the things you're offering me
Symbolized bar code, quick ID, oh yeah
Cause I'm a 21st century digital boy
I don't know how to live but I've got a lot of toys
My daddy's a lazy middle class intellectual
My mommy's on valium, so ineffectual
Ain't life a mystery? Yeah
I can't explain it,
the things you're saying to me
It's going yayayayayayaya, oh yeah
Cause I'm a 21st century digital boy
I don't know how to read but I've got a lot of toys
My daddy's a lazy middle class intellectual
My mommy's on valium, so ineffectual
Ain't life a mystery? Yeah
Tried to tell you about no control
But now I really don't know
And then you told me how bad you had to suffer
Is that really all you have to offer?
Cause I'm a 21st century digital boy
I don't know how to live but I've got a lot of toys
My daddy's a lazy middle class intellectual
My mommy's on valium, so ineffectual
Cat's Foot, Iron Claw (21st century digital boy)
Neuro-surgeons scream for more (21st century digital boy)
Innocents raped with napalm fire (21st century digital boy)
Everything I want I really need (21st century digital boy)
Ain't life a mystery? Yeah

Split (119/365)
Via Flickr:
The Grand Oak on my street had a major branch split off today. I'm not sure the tree will be able to recover from this split.
JAWBREAKER - "Split"
I could walk a million miles.
Suffer freezing rain and failure.
It's familiar.
This time you have gone too far.
Stole my memories and teardrops.
Now it all stops.
Old truths have taken shape.
They form themselves inside your landscape.
And now I'm a million miles from home.
I don't know.
Still, I can see so clearly.
I don't care.
Suffer sacrifice in vain.
Seems like endless pain inside me.
It's colliding.
Still, you've got no choice at all.
Make a choice before your world stops.
Before your smile drops.
Old truths have taken shape.
They form themselves inside your landscape.
And now I'm a million miles from home.
I don't know.
Still, I can see so clearly.
I don't care.
[breakdown rant by Chris:]
... I'm sorry if I said something that you don't like anymore.
I don't know. I'm sorry if I say I don't know if I'm sorry if
I'm not really sorry but I don't know anything at all.
It's not sure what I know or what I care about or what there is
to care about at all, you know what I'm talking about?
Do you know what I mean? Do you hear what I'm saying?
You've made the same mistake again.
Did you think I'd really buy it?
You shouldn't try it.
There's no one here in your defense.
They know you lie and don't make sense.
Are you getting tense?
Old truths have taken shape.
They form themselves inside your landscape.
And now I'm a million miles from home.
I don't know.
Still, I can see so clearly.
I don't care.

Storm (118/365)
Via Flickr:
Black storm clouds hanging over the Atlantic before a bright blue sky emerged for a delightful day.
SAMIAM - "Storm Clouds"
Black clouds hang over you
Like anvils on a string
They follow you everywhere so
Don't stand so close to me
They gather while you're sleeping
And wait above your bed
And when you open up your eyes
They strap themselves fast to your head
Dreamed through another starless night
Awakened by the gloom this morning
I keep myself buttoned tight
These storms come without warning
There seems to be no end in sight
This shit could last forever
I've been through this before
There's no predicting weather you
Will find your way around
Whatever's got you down
Whatever's got you down
The lines across your brow
Tell me the entire story
I won't be listening
While you go on about your fears and worries
Dreamed through another starless night
Awakened by the gloom this morning
I keep myself buttoned tight
These storms come without warning
There seems to be no end in sight
This shit could last forever
I've been through this before
There's no predicting weather you
Will find your way around
Whatever's got you down
Whatever's got you down
You blow into the room
I pour myself some shelter
I know the storm is coming soon
I'm sensitive to changes in pressure
I spent another sleepless night
On your couch tossing and turning
Sometimes I don't know why I try
I think my neck is broken
There seems to be no end in sight
This shit could last forever
I've been through this before
There's no predicting weather you
Will find your way around
Whatever's got you down
Whatever's got you down
Can you find your way around
Whatever's got you down
You're bringing us all down

Spiral (117/365)
Via Flickr:
Stairs for days in the St. Augustine Lighthouse (but really only 14 stories).
JAWBOX - "Spiral Fix"
in precious little circles thoughts run races
dead in the water, black and still
drowning in downsize none finish first
no stars get us out of this hold
slow down, just two are left
i see your smile shine red in the silence
it's laughing at me, one of us is next
is this real life, less end line
when all is done and said
a slip-step cracked my skull
i think, spirals down
a slip-step cracked my skull
i think spirals down the brain
they burned the smiles off the sideways
made it my fortune to watch it all happen
be sure we're still going nowhere
they retch an apology for necessity
but my blood still swims inside
they rumble for more but i won't make the next cut
spiral goes sideways in or out
ragged heels scrape up the pavement
read a line off the kick in the breeze

Trip (116/365)
Via Flickr:
Splendid sunset starting off a super friends weekend in St. Augustine.
THE THERMALS - "Our Trip"
we're self-mending
we're self-cleansing
our slate is clean
say what you mean
it's our trip and we're not listening
we're taking grip
we're talking shit
our slate is clean
say what you mean
it's our trip and we're not listening
we won't flinch
we don't give a shit
we're not listening
we're not listening

Wanderlust (115/365)
Via Flickr:
Wanderlust has struck again... plotting my next voyage.
FRANK TURNER - "Wanderlust"
I have wept until I've slept
Into the lap of the lady that I love
And though she begged and she cajoled
I couldn't tell her what I was thinking of
I didn't chose, no I was chosen
By a life that must be lived in passing through
And though she changed so much for me
Changing this is the one thing I cannot do
Darling, I'm leaving
The distance keeps calling me on
Darling, come morning
I'll be gone
She is beauty, she is graceful
In a poison she is gentle in her care
She is the calm in the centre of my storm
She has her fingers through my hair
She has my heart but it is breaking
Cause it knows that deep inside she still believes
That there will ever come a morning that I'll stay
And not gathering to leave
Darling, I'm leaving
The distance keeps calling me on
Darling, come morning
I'll be gone
Baby let's get out of the city
We need to breathe some cleaner air
That creeping feeling starting like I miss you
And we're both of us still here
There's a sadness in your smiles now
And an edge of desperation in your voice
We have all this independence
But it still feels like we never had a choice
Darling, I'm leaving
