CODE ORANGE KIDS - "Bloom (Return To Dust)"

There is a certain way we move these chains
like a watch in a box that doesn't tell time but instead just gives it
it all starts to bleed into miles that separate
or phone calls that aren't on pace
like the chemicals my grandfather gave me
disarrayed and misconstructed
the wrong blend
but my only vice is the will to give in
to the only feeling that has ever felt worth it
excuse-less//trying to figure out what's worth keeping
when I don't hate anyone else half as much as myself.
It numbs in the never ending quiet that burns my eyelids
learning to learn between the lines of
"I want you to be free"
I want to return to the water.
To drink in the sex//sleaze//mud//greed
Put a gun in the mouth of the sky and just (breathe)
or to where I can bathe in my own conscience.
Sometimes I wake up in the ER with a needle in my arm
or in the back of a mangled car
in the silence before the light comes
but it always ends the same with a flood coursing through my veins
trying to find words to lay out the things I could never say
the way the world picks at my brain. How I can't watch you leave.
Blood is blood
but as everything comes and everyone goes,
"love is love,
return to dust."

BOMB THE MUSIC INDUSTRY! - "I'm Too Coooool For Music"

"Delusions! Delusions! Delusions of grandeur!
Grab the motherfucking tape machine. I'll show you I'm the shit.
Wait and see! Wait and see! Bask in creativity.
I'm too cool for music, faggot. Music isn't cool enough for me:
YEAH! As for the "f" word, pal
That's a poignant social statement from my old home town.
Seig heil! Seig heil! So the world can see
Hate rock isn't hate rock when we call it "irony"

We're doing it right, we're doing it right.
You've got the wrong idea.
You think you're something? Yeah?
You think it's stupid? You don't get it!
We're doing it right, we're doing it right.
You've got the wrong idea.
You think you're something? Yeah?
You don't know anything!"

You can't satirize queer culture if you aren't really gay
Yeah, you can't be anti-PC when no no one cares what you say
And you can say the kids are idiots but you're still up on the stage.
Shock value! Shock value! Shock value! Shock value! Shock
Value! Shock Value! Shock Value!

"I'm just here to entertain!
Like GG Allin, but derivative and lame.
Man, who needs music when you can call people names.
Songs are total bullshit, man. Music isn't cool enough for me."

LESS THAN JAKE - "Hopelessly Devoted To You"

Guess mine is not the first heart broken
My eyes are not the first to cry
I'm not the first to know there's
Just no getting over you

You know I'm just a fool who's willing
To sit around and wait for you
But baby can't you see there's nothing else for me to do
I'm hopelessly devoted to you

But now there's no where to hide
Since you pushed my heart aside
I'm outta my head hopelessly devoted to you
Hopelessly devoted to you
Hopelessly devoted to you

My head is saying fool forget him
My heart is saying don't let go
Hold on to the end that's what I intend to do
I'm hopelessly devoted to you

But now there's no where to hide
Since you pushed my love aside
I'm outta my head hopelessly devoted to you
Hopelessly devoted to you
Hopelessly devoted to you

I visited the Koreshan Historic Site today which is definitely a Pioneer's Park at this point. Fascinating group with a charismatic leader based on science (now known to be incorrect), arts and education more info here: www.floridastateparks.org/koreshan/. Also special note that this is day 200 of 2013!

BRIGHT EYES - "Pioneer's Park"

how did this happen
how did this happen
such a perfect day and unexplainable new feeling
how did this happen
how did this happen
two contented shapes
entwined under the trees
nothing prepares you
and nothing prepares you
for such an endless dream
to pour itself on you
and the world swelled around us
and the world swelled around us
an there was brilliant light, but we were far more radiant
and it is in this light we are lost
the scent of summer in our hair
and laying on our bed of grass
with pleasure thick and sticking to the air (to the air)
sticking to the air (to the air)
and in this light we are lost
the scent of summer in our hair (in our hair...in our hair)

I love beach twilight on a stormy evening.

THE WEAKERTHANS - "Civil Twilight"

My Confusion Corner commuters are cursing the cold away
As December tries to dissemble the length of their working day
And they bite their mitts off to show me transfers, deposit change
and I can't stop finding your face in their faces, all rearranged
and angry like you never were;

And I ease us back into traffic
dusk comes on and I wonder why
I'm always remembering you
in civil twilight

For the most part, I think about golfing and constantly calculate
All the seconds left in the minutes, and so on, etcetera
Or recite the names of provinces and Hollywood actors;
Oh, Ontario! Oh, Jennifer Jason Leigh!
This part of the day bewilders me.

Streets slow down and ice over,
Dusk comes on and I struggle stop-to-stop
To stop thinking of you at civil twilight

Hey, every other hour I pass that house,
Where you told me that you had to go
I wonder if the landlord has fixed the crack,
That I stared at, instead of staring back at you.

My chance to say something seemed so brief, but it wasn't.
Now I know I had plenty of time
Between the sunset and certified darkness
Dusk comes on and I follow the exhaust
From memory out to the end of civil twilight

THE MAX LEVINE ENSEMBLE - "Pink"

I saw you on the train today, and you were wearing pink.
You all were wearing pink. Who marketed pink?
Who sold you pink?

Well there’s about a million variations,
There’s about a million paths that light can take to reach your eye.
In terms of depth and saturation,
Could it be coincidence, you all in one particular hue?
And that’s when I knew, we’d be invincible,
In our power to see, and in color,
And they say we've got no options past what they market to you,
They say we don’t, but you know we do.

And I saw the pink in your cheeks when you were excited to see me,
After weeks, it was a pink that could have not been intended,
To have meaning outside of that place and context,
It was a pink that was real in our lives just then,
So never mind the colors that they’re selling you,
Look outside, there’s colors and they’re all around,
Given all the choices to be chosen from,
Fuck cliché, there’s beauty in the autumn leaves.
